Limitless is no longer for sale. Here is what to buy instead.

Meta acquired Limitless in December 2025 and the Pendant left the storefront. This site explains what happened, how to get your data out, and which devices you can still buy, with sources for every claim.

What happened

  1. December 5, 2025

Limitless announced that Meta had acquired it. Limitless, formerly known as Rewind, made the Limitless Pendant. Limitless said it would no longer sell the Pendant to new customers, would support existing Pendant customers for at least another year, and would make its Unlimited plan free for them. Sources: Limitless, Reuters, TechCrunch.

  2. December 19, 2025

Limitless disabled screen and audio capture in its Rewind app, and users in regions where the service ended on December 5 had until this date to download their data before deletion. Those regions were Brazil, China, the European Union, Israel, South Korea, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

  3. Through 2026

Limitless committed to support existing Pendant customers throughout 2026. The company did not say what happens afterward, so the end of 2026 is the practical planning date for any owner.

  4. Now

Search demand has moved to "Limitless alternative." There is no official successor for a pendant you can add to a cart. You choose among other makers, and the what to buy page lays out the current ones. The what happened page has the full detail.

If you already own a Limitless Pendant

Nothing has to change today. The company said existing customers keep the Unlimited plan for free and that support runs throughout 2026. The sensible plan is to export your data now, while the export tool is confirmed working, and decide on a successor before support ends. The export and migration guide covers the steps, including the developer API and one documented import path.

We would not buy a used Pendant as a new setup. Limitless has not said what happens to the service after 2026, and we do not print second-hand prices because we cannot source them reliably.

What the Limitless Pendant was

The Limitless Pendant was a small wearable that could clip to a shirt like a wireless microphone or hang from a cord like a necklace. TechCrunch described it as an AI-powered pendant that records your conversations, and reported that Limitless, formerly known as Rewind, sold it for $99. Reuters described it as a device that "records conversations, and can generate transcripts and produce searchable summaries through a companion app." It kept audio, which is why the company's export tool includes audio files and why its developer API has an endpoint for downloading Pendant audio as Ogg Opus files.

That design matters for what comes next. Because the Pendant stored recordings and the company's apps handled transcripts, summaries and search, moving on means moving data, not only buying new hardware. It also means that the replacement you choose should match how you used the Pendant: as an always-on memory, as a recorder for particular meetings, or as a cheap experiment.

Why the search for an alternative is different from other product searches

Most "alternative" searches are about price or features. This one is about continuity. Limitless committed to support existing customers throughout 2026 and said nothing about after that. New buyers cannot get a Pendant from the company at all. Owners therefore have two jobs: keep their history safe, and choose a device that will still be supported when theirs stops being. We built this site around those two jobs. The export guide covers the first and the what to buy page covers the second.

If you wanted a Limitless, decide which job you still need

An always-on pendant

Omi is an open-source pendant listed at $129 (normally $179) with a free plan. Legend One is a chest-worn pendant with a Halo light that Legend Memory says never creates an audio file, at $499 including the first year, then $499 per year. Bee Pioneer is a $49.99 wristband for iOS in the US.

A press-to-record device

Plaud (Note, Note Pro, NotePin, NotePin S, $159 to $189), Pocket ($139 listed) and Anker's soundcore Work ($159) are press-to-record and keep audio. SwitchBot's AI MindClip ($119.99) is a clip-on recorder that also keeps recordings. Each includes 300 free monthly minutes or a free plan.

The lowest price

Bee Pioneer at $49.99, US only, iOS only, with no subscription price listed on Bee's site as of September 29, 2026.

Not this job: Friend

Friend is a companion necklace. It is not a notes or memory tool.

Timeline of what is documented

  • December 5, 2025. Limitless announces that Meta has acquired it. Reuters and TechCrunch report the deal. Pendant sales stop the same day, and service ends in Brazil, China, the European Union, Israel, South Korea, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
  • December 19, 2025. The deadline for users in those regions to download their data, and the date the Rewind app disabled screen and audio capture.
  • Throughout 2026. Limitless says it will keep supporting existing Pendant customers, on a free Unlimited plan.
  • After 2026. Not stated by the company.

Each of these dates comes from Limitless's own FAQ or the news reports cited in the Sources block. The what happened page goes through them in more detail, including what the record does not say. If you are reading this after the end of 2026, check the Limitless site for the current position before relying on this page.

Where to go from here

Owners should start with the export and migration guide. Shoppers should read what to buy. Anyone with a specific question can try the FAQ. If you are still comparing options, Legend Memory also has a ranked guide to AI wearables.

How we handle Legend on a Limitless site

This site is operated by the team behind Legend Memory, which makes one of the devices listed. That is a conflict of interest and we treat it as one. Legend appears in the same table as every other option, we print its weaknesses (no playback, the highest recurring cost of the group), and we omit facts we cannot reconcile. Every outside number comes from a maker page or a named news outlet and carries a date. The method is on the About page.

FAQ

Can I still buy a Limitless Pendant?

Not new. Limitless says on its site that it stopped selling the Pendant on December 5, 2025, after Meta acquired the company. Second-hand units exist, but the company committed to support existing Pendant customers only throughout 2026.

What is the closest Limitless alternative in 2026?

There is no clone. For an always-on pendant, Omi and Legend One are the closest in behavior. For a press-to-record device, Plaud, Pocket, SwitchBot and soundcore all list current products. Bee is the lowest-priced option in the US, on iOS only.

Did Limitless go out of business?

No. Meta acquired it, according to Reuters and TechCrunch, and Limitless said it would keep supporting existing Pendant customers throughout 2026. The Pendant product line ended for new buyers.

How do I export my Limitless data?

Open the Limitless web or desktop app, go to Data Exports and request an export, choosing whether to include audio. The full walk-through, with sources, is in our export and migration guide.

Is Friend a Limitless replacement?

No. Friend is a companion device that talks back. It is not built for notes or memory capture.

Who publishes this site?

The team behind Legend Memory, which makes Legend One. It is stated in the footer of every page and explained on the About page.

More answers are on the full FAQ.
